Opera p r i s m in Aleksander theatre 11.11.

Pulitzer Prize-winning contemporary opera p r i s m is going to have its finnish premiere in november 2025 when Opera Skaala in collaboration with Petri Kekoni Company brings to the stage this shaking work about trauma ja recovery. The work will be presented in Aleksander Theatre in Helsinki 11. – 13.11.2025.

Prism is an opera composed by Ellen Reid and written by Roxie Perkins, and it’s based on their own experiences. The work brings to light an often silenced subject, as it explores the post-traumatic stress, mental struggle and the process of recovery following sexual assault. PRISM was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2019.

Petri Kekoni is in charge of choreography and direction of opera, and Kaapo Ijäs is the conductor. In Bibi´s demanding main role we´ll hear coloratura soprano Johanna Takalo and mothers role will be interpretating by Essi Luttinen. Besides the two main roles there´s three dancers on the stage bringing their strong physical presence on the subject. In this work Paavali Kärkkäinen, Pauliina Latva and Maria Mäkelä are making their deput in the company. The impressive sound world is created by 14 musicians chamber orchestra and vocal ensemble of 12 singers.

This internationally granted work got it´s premiere in Los Angeles and after that is presented in New York Prototype – Festival and in Theatre Freiburg In Germany.
